About Us
We’re a local, income tax–focused CPA firm in San Mateo, California. We serve individuals, businesses and trusts with practical, hands-on tax work, and we’re looking for a sharp, driven professional to join the practice and work directly with our managing partner. This is an invaluable opportunity to obtain practical exposure to the profession.
The Role
You’ll shadow and assist the managing partner on day-to-day technical work, always under the partner’s supervision. This is a hands-on, learn-by-doing position with real client exposure, not a back-office job.
The ideal candidate is someone who could work part time for the time being, with the possibility of slowly transitioning into a junior partner after acquiring sufficient experiences, plus opportunity to buy into new, quality clients of the practice.
General responsibilities:
- Tax return preparation
- Support the partner with day-to-day technical and administrative tasks
- Assist the partner in drafting and responding to client emails on technical tax questions
- Research technical tax issues, including using AI-assisted research tools
- Contacting the IRS on behalf of the partner to resolve administrative issues
- Help with process improvement
- Join the partner on Zoom to facilitate communications during certain work hours
What We Offer
- Pay: Starting at $50-60/hour commensurate with experience
- Hours:
- Tax season: 2/15-4/15 30-40hrs a week
- Off season/Rest of year: 400-450 hours, or about 10-12 hours per week
- Flexible schedule, preferably mornings, but we’re happy to discuss
- Fully remote, virtual meetings with partner required
- Real training: We’ll teach you our technical knowledge, software, administrative and technical procedures, and best practices
- Potential buy-in of new clients: the practice has excellent goodwill. We receive a steady flow of cold calls as well as referrals of quality clients. Your role could eventually include buying into these referrals to build your own clientele.
- A path forward: Ideal for someone who may want to eventually transition into running their own practice by joining the firm as a partner.
