Description

The California Gaming Association (“CGA”) is a non-profit trade association organized in 2001 to support licensed cardrooms and vendors. The CGA strives to improve and promote conditions in the California cardroom industry, while providing a safe gaming experience for customers.

CGA takes an active role in interfacing with state regulatory bodies governing the gaming industry. We also assist members with marketing, public relations, and industry issues, and keep them informed through our website, newsletters, general meetings, and educational seminars.

The Executive Director coordinates and implements the many activities of the organization, working under policy guidelines of the Board of Directors. This executive will represent the CGA across varied interactions with membership, outside individuals, public sector agencies and officials, various constituencies, and with the public; all requiring judgment and tact to foster good relations between CGA and these parties.

• Operations & Fiscal Management.  Serve as the chief operations and fiscal officer, overseeing day-to-day operations, regulatory programs, and financial planning.
• Board Relations. Be committed to and value a strong Board as the leadership of the organization by carrying out the directives and policies set by the Board, thereby ensuring the effective overall operations and management of the organization, its finances, consultants, programs, and property.
  • Assist in developing Board meeting schedules and agendas; provide necessary and appropriate research, resources, and materials for Board and leadership activities; and maintain Board archives.
  • Keep the President and Board informed of the general state of the organization, as well as problems and emergencies, and carry out other assigned activities to ensure the success of the organization.
  • Train and educate Board members about finance and financial reporting obligations.
  • Assist the President and Board in the administration of the annual elections.
  • Maintain a master calendar of all events and assist the President, the Board, and committees with planning successful meetings.
  • Work with the Board to identify and pursue quantifiable targets such as to increase membership, increase income, and/or alternative sources of revenues, improve public image and improve service and benefits to members.
• Fundraising & Sponsorship. Develop and oversee appropriate fundraising and non-dues revenue projects and opportunities; establish, maintain, and manage sponsor relationships, cultivation, and stewardship; execute and oversee sponsor fulfillment activities to ensure that sponsors receive benefits promised.  Establish and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with vendors, all law-related entities, the courts, and others in the gaming community and beyond.
• Communications.  Develop, manage, and oversee all communications initiatives, and strategies, including working with long term consultant to create message platform, publications, media, and marketing.
• Strategic Planning. In conjunction with the Board, develop, refine, and articulate a strategic vision for the future of the organization that is compelling and earns the support for the mission and goals of the CGA. Monitor progress on annual and strategic plans, programs, and goals and provide regular updates to the Board on progress toward accomplishing each plan's goals; ensuring commitment to and accomplishment of mission, fiduciary responsibilities, goals, and roles of each participant and of the organization as a whole.
• Committee Support. Value the committee as a resource for the organization and encourage and assist them with their responsibilities.
  Ensure that there is proper communication between the committees, the Board, and the membership about the various projects being managed by each committee group.
  • Ensure that all organization programs, events, litigation, activities, and services are focused on the CGA mission.
  • Encourage member participation and involvement in opportunities at all levels to ensure adequate volunteer involvement in the activities of the organization
• Administrative Oversight.  Design and manage efficient operational systems, including technology, databases, and records.  Ensure compliance with all legal, tax, and licensing requirements, including nonprofit registration and continuing education provider status.
   

Requirements

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a sincere commitment to CGA’s mission and values, possess strong financial and fundraising skills, and have experience working with nonprofits, diverse populations, regulators, and elected officials.

The ideal candidate will be expected to help the organization:

(1)  Preserve CGA’s history while driving innovation.

(2)  Evaluate financial resources, fundraising, volunteer capacity (Board, committee co-chairs).

(3)  Improve member engagement and retentions.

(4)  Increase community engagement.

(5)  Maintain active involvement with the California Gambling Control Commission and the Bureau of Gambling Control. 

In addition, the ideal candidate will be adept at creating a welcoming environment for everyone, be an effective, assertive, positive, diplomatic, and empathetic leader who communicates clearly and compassionately with integrity, humility, and honesty.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have

1)          A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in a non-profit trade association or similar organization;

2)          Experience with the management or regulation of gaming concern(s); California gaming experience is a plus;

3)          Experience with California legislative/regulatory processes;

4)          Exceptional administrative, communication, and organizational skills;

5)          Solid written and oral skills; and

6)          Solid computer and website knowledge
