Description
he Kentucky Bar Association is seeking a Deputy Bar Counsel to join its Office of Bar Counsel and help advance this mission. This position offers a unique opportunity to serve the legal profession and the public while working on matters that directly impact the administration of justice in the Commonwealth. The position is located in the heart of historic downtown Frankfort, Kentucky, providing an exceptional professional environment within the state's capital city.
Responsibilities
- Investigation and prosecution of attorney discipline matters, pursuant to the Rules of the Supreme Court of Kentucky, which includes:
- Evaluating and assessing complaints and responses submitted;
- Drafting summaries, motions, and memoranda for presentation to the Inquiry Commission;
- Drafting resulting orders and disciplinary Charges;
- Handling all prehearing matters and trying cases before Trial Commissioners;
- Research and prepare motions and briefs for review by the Board of Governors, Trial Commissioners, and Supreme Court of Kentucky;
- Presenting oral arguments before the Board of Governors.
- Handling proceedings in other discipline-related areas, including reinstatement/restoration, client security fund, reciprocal discipline, and insufficient funds matters.
- Representing the Office of Bar Counsel at speaking opportunities; and
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief Bar Counsel, Board of Governors, or KBA Executive Director
Job Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in the state of Kentucky.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience practicing law, preferably with trial experience.
- Strong research and oral/written advocacy skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Desire to work as part of a team.
The Kentucky Bar Association offers a 37.5 hour work week with paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. The benefits package includes health insurance, life insurance, and a 401(a) plan.
