Position Summary
General Equipment Rental is seeking an experienced, dependable mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair a diverse fleet of construction, landscaping, and general rental equipment.
This is a hands-on position for a mechanic who is a strong troubleshooter, works independently, communicates clearly, and follows repairs through from diagnosis to completion. Rental-industry experience is preferred but not required; we welcome experienced mechanics from related fields who are comfortable working on a wide variety of equipment.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair rental equipment and tools
- Work with gas and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine equipment inspections
- Identify needed parts and communicate repair needs clearly
- Complete work orders and maintain accurate, timely repair and service records
- Perform field service and road-call repairs when needed
- Test repaired equipment to ensure it is safe, functional, and rental-ready
- Assist with loading, unloading, and equipment movement as needed
- Help customers and employees with equipment operation and troubleshooting
- Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient shop and work area
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic ability
- Experience repairing construction, rental, diesel, or similar equipment
- Working knowledge of engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical systems
- Ability to troubleshoot unfamiliar equipment and find practical solutions
- Ability to work independently, prioritize repairs, and follow through on assigned work
- Ability and willingness to document work accurately and promptly
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position
Additional Position Information
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Work Setting: On-site equipment rental and repair facility
- Primary Focus: Maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and safe return-to-service of rental equipment
- Experience: Equipment-rental experience is preferred, but strong mechanics from related industries are encouraged to apply
- Training: Additional rental-equipment and manufacturer training may be provided as appropriate
- Work Style: This position requires reliability, initiative, organization, good judgment, and the ability to manage multiple repairs without losing track of their status

- Previous professional mechanical repair experience
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Working knowledge of gas and diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components
- Ability to use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely
- Ability to read and use service manuals, diagrams, and technical information
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple repairs and priorities
- Ability to accurately document repairs, parts needs, and work performed
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to perform field service and road-call repairs when required
- Ability to safely lift, move, and work around heavy equipment and components
- Dependable attendance and ability to work a full-time schedule
