Description
FAMILY OFFICE - Equity Analyst - Portfolio Management
Office Location: Houston, TX On-Site (zip code 77024)
01 Purpose of Role
Provide high-quality analytical support to the investment team; produce rigorous, decision-ready research, financial models and reporting that inform long-term capital allocation for the family’s public equity portfolio.
The Equity Analyst is a core member of a lean investment team and works in direct support of the Portfolio Manager. The role covers the public equity portfolio: building and defending investment theses, translating them into actionable ideas based upon credible valuations, and monitoring how those views play out across the book, all from the perspective of a long-term steward of capital rather than a short-term trader.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership position. The analyst is expected to move from raw information to a clear, well-reasoned recommendation with limited supervision, to communicate conclusions concisely, and to use modern tools — including artificial intelligence — to work faster and go deeper without sacrificing accuracy.
02 Key Responsibilities
Research & Idea Generation
- Fundamental analysis: conduct research on companies, industries and macroeconomic trends; sieve through annual reports, financial statements, filings and earnings-call transcripts to identify trends and discover and develop differentiated investment theses.
- Industry mapping: understand competitive dynamics, unit economics, supply chains and regulatory context of the sectors under coverage.
- Thesis documentation: write clear, structured investment memos that articulate the thesis, key drivers, valuation, risks and what would prove the view wrong.
Valuation & Modeling
- Financial modeling: build and maintain three-statement models and valuation frameworks (DCF, comparable multiples, sum-of-the-parts, scenario and sensitivity analysis).
- Assumptions: pressure-test key drivers, document assumptions, and keep models auditable and version-controlled.
Portfolio Management & Monitoring
- Position monitoring: track daily performance, exposure by sector, geography and factor, and flag material events (results, guidance changes, corporate actions, news).
- Risk awareness: monitor concentration, liquidity and correlation across the book and escalate issues proactively.
- Rebalancing support: help size positions and prepare trade rationales for the Portfolio Manager's review.
Reporting & Due Diligence
- Investment-committee materials: prepare memos, performance reports and presentations for the committee and for the family.
- Opportunity due diligence: support the evaluation and ongoing monitoring of new equity investment opportunities.
- Data integrity: maintain market databases and dashboards, ensuring the information behind every decision is accurate and current.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE ROLE
We want someone who already uses or who is eager to master AI tools applied to investing: synthesizing large volumes of research, extracting data from lengthy filings and transcripts, automating repetitive data collection, drafting first-pass analysis, and stress-testing arguments.
AI is treated as a tool that enhances productivity and insights, not a replacement for judgment. Every AI-generated output must be verified against primary sources before it informs a decision. Fluency with these tools — and good judgment about their limitations — is a meaningful differentiator for this role.
