Description
OverviewJoin our dynamic team as a Golf Shop Merchandiser, where you will play a vital role in creating an engaging and visually appealing retail environment that enhances the member experience. The Golf Shop Merchandiser is responsible for creating and maintaining exceptional retail experience while supporting the daily operations of the golf shop. This position oversees merchandise planning, purchasing, visual merchandising, inventory management, and vendor relationships while also assisting with golf shop operations, member services, tournament support, and delivering exceptional experience for members and guests. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, personable, and thrives in a hospitality-focused private club environment. This position reports directly to the Head Golf Professional.
Experience Required
- Supervising experience in retail or merchandising environments preferred
- Proven store management skills with a focus on visual merchandising and inventory control
- Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for creating promotional materials or visual displays
- Experience in marketing strategies to attract customers and boost sales performance
- Multilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse customer bases
- Knowledge of schematics, remodeling, interior design, or interior decorating is advantageous
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members, clients, and vendors effectively
- Hands-on experience with planogram implementation, retail math, pricing strategies, and POS systems
- Ability to operate material handling equipment safely for heavy lifting or manual handling tasks
Essential Responsibilities
Retail & Merchandising
• Plan, purchase, and receive golf shop merchandise, including apparel, accessories, gifts, and golf equipment.
• Maintain attractive, seasonally appropriate merchandise displays throughout the golf shop.
• Develop and maintain a visual merchandising portfolio documenting seasonal shop transitions, merchandise displays, promotional features, and floor layouts to serve as a resource for future planning and merchandising initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Head Golf Professional to develop and execute an annual merchandising calendar, including seasonal transitions, major golf events, member tournaments, holidays, and promotional initiatives.
• Ensure the golf shop remains clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times.
• Rotate inventory and create promotional displays to maximize sales.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment orders.
• Manage pricing, tagging, markdowns, and product presentation.
• Develop and maintain relationships with golf industry vendors and sales representatives.
• Assist with special orders and member merchandise requests.
• Analyze sales trends and recommend merchandise selections based on member preferences.
Golf Shop Operations
• Assist with the daily operation of the golf shop, including opening and closing procedures.
• Provide exceptional service to members and guests.
• Process merchandise sales, tee times, tournament registrations, and daily transactions accurately.
• Answer phones, assist with member inquiries, and support daily golf operations.
• Assist with tournaments, leagues, member events, and club functions.
• Maintain accurate inventory through cycle counts and monthly inventory procedures.
• Help maintain a professional, welcoming, and member-focused golf shop environment.
Member Services
• Build positive relationships with members and guests.
• Provide product knowledge and personalized shopping assistance.
• Coordinate special orders, logo merchandise, and gift requests.
• Resolve member concerns professionally and promptly.
• Support all aspects of the member experience with a positive, member-first attitude.
Administrative Duties
• Maintain accurate inventory and purchasing records.
• Assist with budgeting and retail reporting as requested.
• Coordinate vendor invoices and merchandise receiving.
• Monitor retail sales performance and identify opportunities for growth.
Qualifications
• Previous experience in retail merchandising, golf operations, hospitality, or a private club environment preferred.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Canva, ForeTees, JONAS Point of Sale (POS), and other retail management systems.
• Flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
Preferred Qualifications
• Private club experience preferred.
• Knowledge of golf merchandise, apparel, and equipment.
• Experience with inventory management and retail buying.
• Visual merchandising experience.
• Familiarity with golf tournament operations.
Physical Requirements
• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Bend, reach, and climb ladders when setting merchandise displays.
• Work in both indoor and occasional outdoor environments.
