Description
The Cornell University Department of Information Science (IS) in the Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science has tenure-track and tenured faculty positions available. The IS department spans Cornell’s Ithaca and New York City campuses where nearly 40 faculty members are leaders in their respective fields within Information Science's interdisciplinary structure.
We are interested in applications from researchers in any of the broad research areas of the department (see https://infosci.cornell.edu/research). This year, we are particularly interested in candidates whose research explores the role of computing and AI in education and learning, including in global environments beyond the United States. Outstanding applicants outside this area may also be considered. We seek candidates who bring a range of methodological approaches to bear on research problems, including the design, building, development, theoretical analysis, and application of computing and AI systems to address needs, as well as social science methods to investigate interactions between people and systems.
Faculty hired for this Ithaca campus search will have their teaching and research based in Ithaca. The IS faculty are located in Cornell’s Gates Hall and the new Computing and Information Science building. The department has strong connections with several other units on campus, including Computer Science, Communication, Economics, Sociology, Science and Technology Studies, Statistics and Data Science, Operations Research and Information Engineering, Cognitive Science, and the Law School. These connections support the IS department’s mission to advance its understanding of how people and society interact with computing and information.
The department strives to offer a high quality of life, providing a collegial and supportive atmosphere on campus. Beyond campus, Ithaca is in the heart of the Finger Lakes region, and both Cornell and Ithaca offer a vibrant cultural life and a wide range of sporting and outdoor activities close at hand. Cornell also seeks to meet the needs of dual career couples, with both its own Dual Career program and membership in the Upstate New York Higher Education Recruitment Consortium to assist in dual career searches.
There is a salary range of $83,200 - $357,300 for positions like this one at Cornell; this range reflects an aggregate of qualifications and disciplines across Cornell University. Actual salary offers will be based on education, experience, discipline, and relevant skills. The above application materials should be submitted online at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/33075 . We will begin reviewing applications (including reference letters) on December 1, 2026, but applications will be accepted until the search has concluded.
