THE ROLE
The Qualified Craft Worker (Electrical) will spend most of their time performing highly skilled electrical repair services including routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance for multiple commercial and/or industrial facilities as well as new electrical installation work.
The individual filling this position will also:
Diagnose/troubleshoot and resolve electrical problems typical to commercial and industrial buildings including emergency generators;
Perform facility fire alarm diagnosis, testing, and repair;
Perform life safety inspections;
Utilize email and a State-issued tablet for duties including communication, recordkeeping, handling work orders, preparing reports, making estimates of time, equipment, and materials, and for preparing preventative maintenance schedules; and
Collaborate with other trades as required in the repair and maintenance of HVAC and fuel dispensing equipment.
Candidates will be issued a State vehicle, cell phone, and tablet. A considerable amount of driving is involved and the individual filling this position is required to maintain a valid Connecticut driver’s license.
The incumbent must be dependable and self-motivated since they will often by working independently. The ability to multi-task and to take initiative in completing their duties with minimum supervision is necessary.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of experience in tasks in the electrical trade.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been performing skilled electrical trades.
NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Skilled Maintainer or Transportation Maintainer 2.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience.
At the University of Connecticut: Satisfactory performance and completion of the UConn Facilities Internship Training Program may be substituted for the General and Special Experience as determined by UConn Facilities Operations and Human Resources Management.
At other state agencies: Two (2) years of experience as a Qualified Craft Worker Trainee in a designated maintenance trade area may be substituted for the General and Special Experience.
Experience performing technical duties within the electrical trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General and Special Experience on a year for year basis.
