American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Comprehensive Cancer Center unit at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in North Carolina, with oncology experience preferred.
Details- 40-bed Comprehensive Cancer Center unit within a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center (885 licensed beds)
- Patient population includes hematology and oncology, leukemia, symptom management, and comfort care/end-of-life cases
- Average daily census of 34 patients
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5, acuity dependent; CNA ratio of 1:9-12
- Specialized procedures include port access, blood product administration, electrolyte management, EOL care, pain/symptom management, PIV starts, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Telemetry monitored via centralized telemetry unit; RN required to verify strips each shift
- EMR: Epic (experience noted); IV pumps: Alaris; med dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM start), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating within the cancer center first (7CC East, 9CC), then to any med/surg unit within the hospital
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- ONS and OCN certifications preferred
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg Tele experience required; oncology experience preferred
- Most recent experience must be within the last year
- Experience at a Level 1 Trauma or academic teaching hospital is beneficial given work environment
- 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- CNAs assist with vitals, heights/weights, and ADLs; receptionist/HUC support available daily 7 AM–11 PM; designated charge nurses on days with fill-in charge coverage on nights; phlebotomy and respiratory therapy available each shift
- IV/VAT team available on day shift; hospitalist coverage available 24/7
- Orientation includes hospital new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free on-site parking available
- 75% of assigned holidays are required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- First-time travelers with a minimum of 1 year of experience will be considered
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must be separated from that facility for at least 1 year before being eligible
